Hindi Consonants

Knowledge of Consonants (व्यंजन) 

Now learners! We will learn about Consonants. It’s a great start for all of us because we have learnt all the vowels and we are moving on consonants. There are lots of consonants in Hindi language for new learners, it is quite difficult but don’t worry. We will learn these consonants in a group as we will learn first five- 

Group #1-  क,ख,ग,घ,ङ         Group #2-  च,छ,ज,झ,ञ        Group #3-  ट,ठ,ड,ढ,ण
Group #4-  त,थ,द,ध,न          Group #5-  प,फ,ब,भ,म          Group #6-  य,र,ल,व,श
Group #7-  ष,स,ह,त्र,ज्ञ

Group #1-  क,ख,ग,घ,ङ

First consonants is क ka, as you will speak all the letters in loud voice then you can build up your confidence so it will be a fresh start for today. Isn’t it?

 क  ka  (For “kamal”  कमल means “Lotus”)     

 ख  kha  (For “Khargosh”  खरगोश means “Rabbit”)          

 ग  ga  (For “Gamla”  गमला  means “Vass”)                        

    घ  gha  (For “Ghadi”  घड़ी means “Watch”)                        

                          ड़  ṅa  (It is used rarely so will learn later about it.)    

Group #2-  च,छ,ज,झ,ञ

 च  cha  (For “Chammach”  चम्मच   means “Spoon”)      

 छ  Cha  (For “Chatri”  छतरी  means “Umbrella”)            

 ज  ja  (For “Jahaaj”  जहाज  means “ship”)

 झ Jha  (For “Jhanda”  झण्डा  means “Flag”) 

                          ञ ña  (It is used rarely so will learn later about it.)   

  

Group #3-  ट,ठ,ड,ढ,ण

 ट  ta  (For “Tamatar”  टमाटर  means “Tomato”)                

 ठ  tha  (For “Thanda”  ठंडा  means “Cold”)                         

 ड  da  (For “Damaru”  डमरू  means “Pellet Drum”)        

 ढ  dha  (For “Dhakkan”  ढक्कन  means “lid”)                     

                  ण  ṇa  (It is always used at the end of the word, never used in the starting of the word) 

Group #4-  त,थ,द,ध,न 

 त  ta (For “Tarbooj”  तरबूज  means “Watermelon”)       

 थ  tha  (For “Thaali”  थाली  means “Plate”)                       

 द  da  (For “Doodh”  दूध  means “Milk”)                               

 ध  dha  (For “Dhanush”  धनुष means “Bow”)                   

 न  na  (For “Nal”  नल means “Tap”)                                    

Group #5-  प,फ,ब,भ,म

 प  pa  (For “Patang” पतंग  means “Kite”)                           

 फ  pha  (For “Phal”  फल  means “Fruits”)                         

 ब  ba  (For “Bakri”  बकरी  means “Goat”)                          

 भ  bha  (For “Bhalu”  भालू means “Bear”)                      

 म  ma  (For “Machli”  मछली  means “Fish”)                    

Group #06-  य,र,ल,व,श 

 य  ya  (For “Yantra”  यंत्र  means “Tool”)                           

 र  ra  (For “Rassi”  रस्सी means “Rope”)                        

 ल  la  (For “Lattu”  लटटू means “Top”)                           

 व  va  (For “Van”  वन  means “Forest”)

                       

 श  sha  (For “Shalgam” शलगम  means “Beet”)         

 

Group #7- ष,स,ह,त्र,ज्ञ

   ष  sha  (For “Shatkone”  षट्कोण means “Hexagon”) 

 स  sa  (For “Suraj”  सूरज means “Son”)                       

 ह  ha  (For “Haath”  हाथ  means “Hand”)                     

 क्ष  cha  (For “shatriya”   क्षत्रिय means “Warrior”)     

 त्र  tra  (For “Tribhuj”  त्रिभुज means “Triangle”)      

ज्ञ  gya  (For “Gyan” ज्ञान means “Knowledge”)
